Government’s WhatsApp chatbot to become a one-stop-destination to access official documents

The government’s WhatsApp chatbot, which was launched last year to schedule vaccination appointments and get inoculation certificates, will now serve as a one-stop destination for a range of official documents.

Citizens will be able to download their driver’s licence, income tax certificate, or PAN card instantly via WhatsApp.

According to officials, the pilot project has already been put out for testing.

The WhatsApp chatbot interface will provide access to documents stored on a citizen’s DigiLocker.

The name of the MyGov Corona Helpdesk has been changed to MyGov Helpdesk to reflect the extension of services beyond Covid-19-related resources.

“The interface will have the option of unlocking DigiLocker services,” a senior government official, said. “When you choose the DigiLocker option, it will authenticate with your Aadhaar and OTP and will inform you of the documents available.”

The interface will prompt you for the OTP and mobile number associated with the certificate, which you may get right away.

“Getting the certificate takes around 30 seconds,” the officer added.

Currently, almost 100 million individuals use DigiLocker, and it has also become the national academy depository, with access to all Class 10 and 12 certificates, according to the official.

About 80 million people have used the MyGov Corona Helpdesk for Covid-19-related information, with around 32 million downloading Covid-19 immunisation certificates via the WhatsApp chatbot.

According to Amit Ranjan, one of the architects of the national DigiLocker initiative, the popularity, simplicity, and use of WhatsApp will lower entry barriers and make DigiLocker more accessible to more people.
