AI-driven beauty startup CureSkin raises $5M to grow its technology platform

CureSkin, a Bengaluru-based artificial intelligence-driven beauty and personal care company, has raised $5 million in a fresh round of funding to extend its technological platform by expanding its customer base and expanding into adjacent categories.

Sharrp Ventures, SenseAI, and other previous investors joined JSW Ventures in leading the new series A investment. CureSkin’s platform, which was founded in 2017 by two ex-Google workers Guna Kakulapati and Rama Rajanna, as well as doctor Charu Sharma, uses AI technology to accurately diagnose users’ skin ailments and offer a customised treatment kit and care regimen.

The business claims that its tech-enabled platform addresses these concerns by providing expert-designed tailored regimens. Users can use the CureSkin app to take images and receive free AI analysis for acne, dark spots, pigmentation, wrinkles, and more.

Its method is based on a database of millions of photos that can accurately diagnose skin problems across a wide range of skin types. CureSkin creates a tailored, safe, and effective treatment based on the results of the analysis, which may be purchased through in-app transactions.

Additionally, the app recommends a dermatologist-designed regimen to maintain healthy skin and hair for users with decent skin.

“There is a large market need for outcome-oriented, specialist care for skin and hair conditions. We believe that our data and technology-based approach to developing superior products and providing personalized advice will solve this problem and cater to every Indian’s skin, hair & personal care needs,” said Guna Kakulapati, Co-founder & CEO of CureSkin.

Speaking on the investment, Sachin Tagra, Partner at JSW Ventures, said: “CureSkin is a category creator in the technology-led beauty and personal care industry. The capital will help the company to continue scaling its operations, innovate on new products and build a stronger technology solution that will allow the brand to become a category leader.”

CureSkin had previously received $500,000 in investment from SenseAI Ventures in January 2020. SenseAI Ventures is a venture capital firm specialising in artificial intelligence startups.
