Following bans from Facebook and Twitter, former US President Donald Trump is launching his own social media network. Trump’s social media network will be named “TRUTH Social,” and it will “defy Big Tech’s tyranny.” The social networking app is expected to be the first initiative of the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) after its merger with Digital World Acquisition Group, which is led by the former US president.
“We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced,” Donald Trump said in the statement, targeting both Twitter and Facebook.
The former president of the United States had his social media accounts briefly blocked or even banned because of his inflammatory remarks, throughout his administration, Trump often mentioned putting a check on Big Tech, which includes companies like Facebook and Google. Trump and his advisors hinted about the development of a rival platform to Facebook and Twitter at the time, so the announcement of the “TRUTH Social” does not come as a surprise, but what it will be like is now unclear.
