New Android Malware Can Steal Your Password, Already One Million Phones Affected

Users of Android phones should be aware of a new malware that can steal credentials and has already been downloaded by over a million people. Worryingly, the malicious program is still available for download from the Google Play Store.

Users have been warned about a new malware named FaceStealer that has disguised itself as an app called Craftsart Cartoon Photo Tools, which allows you to submit a photo and have it recreated as a cartoon render.

The Android malware, which has a Facebook login screen and requires you to sign in via the app, was found by security firm Pradeo. When a user registers in with this tool, the app sends the user’s information to the attackers’ control server.

According to Pradeo, the app’s developer was able to get through Google Play Store’s strict standards without the virus being identified. The majority of individuals log into their Facebook accounts because they believe they have no other option. And by doing so, you’re making it easy for unknown entities to gain access to your phone’s device and data, allowing them to take all of your personal information.

Once again, it is paramount that Android users need to be careful while downloading apps, even from Google Play Store, but there have been instances where Google has been late to detect the malware, infecting thousands, who can lose their data.

Pradeo recommends you download apps that belong to popular and known companies.
