Standard AI has seen an explosion in demand for its computer vision platform.
It now confirms the acquisition of ThirdEye Labs, a UK-based computer vision company.
Standard AI, a global leader in computer vision for retail, announced the completion of its acquisition of ThirdEye Labs, a UK-based computer vision company, as well as the addition of Sameer Qureshi, a former Tesla and Lyft executive, as its first-ever vice president of machine learning. Standard AI will expand the capabilities of the Standard AI platform in exciting new ways to drive forward the future of autonomous retail, now that it has the largest and most experienced computer vision team in retail tech.
The need for retailers to find ways to offer a transformed customer experience, maximise labour capacity, and improve in-store efficiency and economics has resulted in an explosion in demand for Standard AI’s computer vision platform. The company recently announced a partnership with Alimentation Couche-Tard to open the first of a series of autonomous Circle K shops in Arizona.
ThirdEye Labs is a London-based, award-winning technology firm founded in 2016 by Raz Ghafoor and Peter Rennert with the goal of using computer vision to assist retailers in combating lines and retail loss and improving operations. The company’s innovative machine learning algorithms, which are similar to those used by autonomous vehicles to identify and predict pedestrian behaviour, are focused on specific human movements. The acqui-hire terms were not disclosed.
“Computer vision has rapidly become one of the most valuable ways for brick-and-mortar retailers to keep up with the data-driven flexibility of eCommerce,” said Jordan Fisher, CEO of Standard AI. “Raz and the ThirdEye product and engineering team have been engaged in cutting-edge work, and they will be invaluable to our team as we expand the capabilities of our platform deeper into retail.”
Sameer Qureshibhas also joined as the first Vice President of Machine Learning in standard. Qureshi comes from Woven Planet and Lyft, where he was Director of Product for Level 5, Lyft’s autonomous driving division. Prior to joining Lyft, Qureshi was the Director of Autopilot Programs at Tesla, where he was in charge of the Autopilot software stack across all of Tesla’s vehicles and platforms.
Qureshi will lead the artificial intelligence and machine learning teams at Standard AI, collaborating closely with the Standard engineering and product teams to improve the Standard autonomous checkout platform and bring new products to market.
