The messaging app Telegram released a slew of new features. Telegram lacks an iMessage-like reaction feature as well as an intriguing feature that allows you to hide parts of a text. Spoiler is the name of the feature. Another significant feature of the messaging app is the message translation feature, which is clearly a first in a messaging app. Message translation is not available in any other messaging app, including WhatsApp and Signal.
Message Reactions
Telegram users will now be able to react to messages using emojis. The feature is already available on iMessage, Facebook Messenger and Instagram but now Telegram will get it too. “Telegram was the first messaging app to add animated and interactive emoji, giving users unparalleled ways to express themselves in chats. Today some of these emoji become available as reactions to share feelings and feedback without sending any messages,” the company said in a blog post.
Simply double a message to send a Thumbs Up reaction when responding to a message with emoji. To send additional emojis, tap once on the message and select from the list of emojis. Only private chats, groups, and channels can use reactions; admins decide whether to enable reactions and which reaction emoji are available in the chat.
Spoiler
When typing, users can select any part of their text and choose the new ‘Spoiler’ formatting. When you choose Spoiler, the selected part of the message is hidden in the chat, as well as in the chat list and notifications.
Message translation
Message Translation is by far one of the most important features to be added to a messaging app. Fortunately, Telegram was the first app to receive it. Users can now translate any message into another language directly within the app. Translation can be enabled in Settings>Languages. When you select a message, a new Translate button is added to the context menu. Users can also choose to exclude any languages in which they are fluent, which will hide the translate button for those messages. Translation is available on all Android devices that support Telegram, but Apple devices require iOS 15 or later. The list of available languages is determined by the operating system of your phone.
