Whatsapp getting a design revamp

WhatsApp appears to be working on a new voice call interface. The interface would be available in both the Android and iOS versions of the messaging app. Through this new interface, WhatsApp hopes to improve the experience of individual and group voice calls.

According to WABetainfo, WhatsApp is currently working to introduce a redesigned interface for users when making voice calls. The changes are not yet available even for WhatsApp beta testers.

WhatsApp is redesigning the interface for a future update to make it more compact and modern, organising the available space: the new redesign will look nice, particularly when placing group voice calls. The call screen’s functionality is still the same, with all of the buttons and interface elements remaining firmly in place.

The redesign does, however, make the experience feel a little more clean and nice. It replaces the colourful background with a black one, with a rounded grey square in the centre displaying your contact’s name/number and profile picture.

The new interface is more compact and modern, which will be especially noticeable during group calls. According to the report, the Meta-owned platform intends to include indicators to remind users that all calls made from its platform are end-to-end encrypted.

The indicator will appear as a message that says, “Your personal calls are end-to-end encrypted.” This message will appear in the Calls tab of the app under each call made or received for voice and video calls made or received through its platform.

It’s worth noting that WhatsApp first implemented end-to-end encryption on its platform in 2016. It also extended the same protection to its chat backups, which are stored on Google Drive for Android users and iCloud for iPhone users, earlier this year. “Neither WhatsApp nor your backup service provider will be able to read your backups or access the key required to unlock it,” WhatsApp mentioned when the feature was announced.
