Machine learning could be accessible to the nonexperts: Research says

Award-winning research from the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science explains “How inexperienced individuals can efficiently and ethically use machine learning algorithms” to encourage industries to harness the power of artificial intelligence. As machine learning has joined numerous fields and industries traditionally outside of computing, the requirement for research and effective, convenient tools to facilitate new users in leveraging artificial intelligence is unprecedented. We don’t know much about how nonexperts in machine learning come to learn algorithmic tools,” said Swati Mishra, a PhD student in the field of information…

A ground-breaking discovery in robot design

Researchers at Tohoku University with the backing of the Human Frontier Science Program, have decrypted the flexible motor control mechanisms underlying salamander walking. The salamander is an amphibian and the most suitable specimen for understanding body-limb coordination mechanisms. The researchers modelled the nervous system of the salamander mathematically and physically. In making the model, the researchers hypothesized that the legs and the body are controlled to support other motions by distributing sensory information. They then reproduced the speed-dependent gait transitions of salamanders through computer simulations. The discovery is expected to promote the…

Facebook open sources droidlet- the platform to build robots

Droid let, The platform for building robots that leverage natural language processing to understand the world around them. According to a new report from venture beat, Facebook has open-sourced droidlet recently.   Droidlet enables researchers to test different NLP and computer visions to build systems that can accomplish tasks in the real world or simulated environments like Minecraft or Facebook’s Habitat. It simplifies the integration of machine learning algorithms in robots. The platform delivers a dashboard for researchers to add debugging and visualization widgets and tools as well as an interface for rectifying errors and annotation. Droidlet ships with wrappers for connecting…

Researchers to find out the best teleconferencing platform: All you need to know

As a result of the covid 19 pandemic, People across the world stay connected using teleconferencing platforms like Zoom. But when it comes to telemedicine, not all medical care is easily translated to a remote format.   In remote medical practices, voice therapy presents a particular challenge because clinicians must depend on acoustic recordings of voice to assess the efficacy of their procedures. But most teleconferencing platforms distort sounds in their efforts to remove background noise. Boston University graduate researcher Hasini Weerathunge associated with other BU researchers to put five…
