Gamerji, an esports gaming platform based in Ahmedabad, said today that it has secured $1.1 million (about Rs 8.5 crore) in a pre-Series A round headed by Unicorn India Ventures, with participation from Stadia Ventures, the Urmin Group family office, and current investors.
GamerJi’s online esports platform, which was founded in 2019 by serial entrepreneur Soham Thacker, allows players to participate in tournaments of their favourite games, host matches, chat, exchange content, and earn rewards.
Gamerji plans to use the funds generated to improve tournament management technology, add social features for gamers, and expand to MENA and Southeast Asia, according to the announcement.
“In the past 12 months, we have added 1.7 Million users, conducted 21k+ tournaments, launched tournaments IPs in Gamerji Community Challenge & College Gaming league,” Valay Patel, CTO, Gamerji said.
He further said the fresh funds will be used to improve product experience with innovations in technology and upgrade the infrastructure to serve the next set of 7 to 8 million users along with expanding the platform to other strategic territories.
The startup in a statement said the increasing number of young video gamers view competitive gaming as a career opportunity, rather than just a recreational activity.

It also intends to be the initial step for all aspiring gamers to begin their esports adventure by hosting competitions, with a goal of gaining more than 5 million members in India by 2022, as well as expanding its tournament services to MENA and SEA.
