Google to roll out locked folder feature to more Android devices

Google Photos’ Locked Folder feature will soon be available to non-Pixel users.

The feature hides your private and sensitive pictures from the gallery.

Non-Pixel users will soon be able to use Google Photos’ Locked Folder feature. The feature covers up your private and sensitive images in the gallery. The Locked Folder feature was initially available only on Pixel phones, but it will soon be available to non-Pixel users as well. This means that other Android phones, such as Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, and Samsung, will also get the feature. According to reports, some OnePlus and Samsung users have already received the feature.

According to Android Police, Google has begun to roll out the feature to non-pixel phones, and some older Pixel phones that did not receive the feature right away will now receive it. Google announced the Locked Folder feature in May at Google I/O. As the name implies, the feature can be used to hide private photos. Password protect sensitive or private photos that you don’t want others to see. For example, if your friend is scrolling through your phone’s gallery, he will be unable to see the pictures that have been protected with the Locked Folder feature.

“With Locked Folder in @googlephotos, you can add photos to a passcode-protected space and they won’t show up as you scroll through photos or other apps on your phone. Locked Folder is launching first on Google Pixel, and more Android devices throughout the year,” Google had said while announcing the feature.

Now that Google has officially started to roll out the feature to more Android phones, it can be found in devices running Android 6 or later. It was accessible to users on my Pixel 2 running Android 11. Photos > Library > Utilities is where you’ll find the feature. Google has also announced that the feature will be available in the iOS version of Google Photos by the end of the year.
