The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has reached an important milestone by successfully demonstrating the restart capability of its Vikas liquid engine. This test took place at the ISRO Propulsion Complex in Mahendragiri on January 17, 2025. During the test, the Vikas engine was ignited for 60 seconds, then shut down for 120 seconds, and successfully restarted for an additional 7 seconds. All engine parameters were reported to be within normal ranges, marking a significant advancement in ISRO’s efforts toward reusable launch vehicle technology and stage recovery systems. This accomplishment is anticipated to enhance ISRO’s ability to develop more sophisticated, reusable space systems. Additional tests are planned to further refine the engine’s restart capabilities under different conditions.
