Reliance Digital Health has invested in the onology-focused managed healthcare platform Karkinos Healthcare for an undisclosed amount, according to a statement released by company
Other major angel investors in the start-up, which is backed by Ratan Tata personally and the Tata Group, include Venu Srinivasan, Kris Gopalakrishnan, Ronnie Screwvala, Vijay Shekar Sharma, and Bhavish Agarwal.
Rakuten Medical, a global clinical stage biotechnology firm based in San Diego, California, also has a minority stake in it.
The Tata Group recently invested Rs 110 crore in this technology-driven oncology-focused managed healthcare platform, which aids in the early detection and diagnosis of common cancers. It collaborates with multiple healthcare institutions and professionals through a distributed cancer care network to bring cancer care closer to the patient’s home by decoupling delivery from knowledge systems of care.
According to the statement, Reliance Industries has made an undisclosed investment in Karkinos through Reliance Digital Health for a minority stake.
Venkataramanan R, CEO of Karkinos Healthcare, commented on the investment, saying, “This investment validates our pioneering model of distributed cancer care and the potential impact it can have in the country.”
Though headquartered in Mumbai, it now only operates in Kerala, with services available in four locations: Kothamangalam and Chottanikkara in Kerala’s Ernakulma district. and Thodupuzha and Munnar in the Idukki district, and it intends to expand its operations throughout the country.
The company, which was founded in July 2020, is also establishing a cancer control centre on the campus of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal, Manipur.
