Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday that startups can play a critical role in socialising and democratising the availability of healthcare around the world at a time when the world is grappling with the coronavirus pandemic,. Entrepreneurs should also focus on strengthening the Make in India programme, innovating in India, and mentoring young startups, according to him.
“As the world is facing successive waves of this pandemic, our entrepreneurs must start thinking of making our startups more resilient… I think our startups can play a very important role to socialise and democratise the availability of healthcare across the world,” he said while addressing the inaugural session of the Startup India Innovation Week
According to the minister, venture capitalists and financiers can also play an important role in mentoring young startups across the country, particularly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
“I propose five mantras for startup growth in the coming years: Share, Explore, Nurture, Serve, and Empower (SENSE).”
He stated that the government has taken several steps to encourage startups, including lowering patent filing fees, relaxing public procurement rules, establishing a fund of funds, and launching a seed fund scheme.
During the period 2018-21, startups created over six lakh jobs, a figure that is growing by the day, he added.
