Andrej Karpathy, Tesla’s Director of AI, has announced his departure from the company.
Karpathy has worked at Tesla for the past five years. Prior to joining Tesla, he worked as a research scientist at OpenAI on computer vision and generative modelling. Further back, he earned his PhD at Stanford as part of the research team of leading AI expert Fei-Fei Li.
Tesla will suffer a significant loss as a result of Karparthy’s departure. Karparthy led the Autopilot Vision team at Tesla. The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust has announced a collaboration with TCS to develop digital solutions that increase specialist productivity, decrease patient wait times, and improve overall patient experience.
Following rumours, Tesla has begun laying off approximately 10% of its workforce. Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated in an email to executives that he has a “super bad feeling” about the economy.
Given the record number of job openings and high demand for talent across the tech industry, but particularly in AI, some high-profile employees appear to be leaving on their own.
Several other high-profile Tesla executives, according to The Information, have left the company.
