Twitter’s crypto team will be headed by Tess Rinearson.
The team will support Decentralized Apps
Twitter has always been the heart of all cryptocurrency discussions. The social media company seems to realize its relevance in the field, as it has now vowed to work on crypto and blockchain solutions for the platform.
Tess Rinearson, the developer who has joined Twitter to manage the company’s crypto initiatives, made the announcement in a new tweet. Rather than focusing just on cryptocurrencies, Twitter’s new team will work on underlying solutions such as blockchains and other decentralised technologies.
“As I build out the team, we’ll be working to figure out what crypto can do for Twitter, as well as what Twitter can do for crypto,” Rinearson tweeted on Wednesday.
The initial focus of Twitter’s crypto team would be to investigate how Twitter might be used to support creators’ interest in decentralised apps. These apps may be used to handle virtual products and currencies, as well as to support their work and communities in the long run.
According to Rinearson’s Twitter thread, the team will continue to collaborate with the community to develop solutions for “identity, community, ownership, and more.” An intriguing idea is to decentralize Twitter itself, i.e. to host it on a blockchain network rather than on servers hosted by other providers such as Amazon Web Services. Twitter intends to stay ahead of the curve in the long run with its “decentralized” social media platform.
