What is ChatGPT, the AI chatbot that everyone is talking about

ChatGPT from OpenAI is sweeping the internet. The AI-powered chatbot is now available for public testing on OpenAI’s official website, and users can experiment with its features for free. Many people believe that ChatGPT has the potential to replace Google Search because its responses are more conversational and human-like. Furthermore, ChatGPT can review and write code in seconds, making the future of aspiring coders bleak. It can even solve difficult math problems.

However, like any other technology, ChatGPT isn’t perfect, and the company has acknowledged its limitations. In this explainer, we are highlighting everything you need to know.

What exactly is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a chatbot where users can ask questions and the platform with the power of AI (artificial intelligence) answers them. The company has designed it so that users can receive both technical and jargon-free responses.

For example, we inquired about ChatGPT’s operation, both technically and simplistically. Its technical response is: “OpenAI’s ChatGPT is a natural language processing (NLP) model. It’s a transformer-based model that’s been trained on a massive corpus of conversational data. It is intended to respond to user input in a human-like manner, allowing for natural conversations with a virtual assistant.”

On the other hand, the simple answer reads, “ChatGPT works by using a large corpus of conversational data to train a transformer-based model. This model is then used to generate human-like responses to user input, allowing for natural conversations with a virtual assistant.”

The company explains that the chatbot uses Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) technology but is tweaked to appear more friendly to humans. It is based on GPT-3.5, a language model used for deep learning to produce human-like text. However, users may get different replies if they ask the same question in the future. That’s because the chatbot will improve over time and understand queries better through machine learning.

How can ChatGPT be used?

Once the tests are completed, OpenAI will be able to extend ChatGPT’s underlying technology to companies that rely on chatbots. For example, the chatbot can be used for customer service (Airtel, Paytm, Swiggy, and other companies), personal assistants (to help users with tasks like scheduling, reminders, and other daily activities), and students (to help them solve complex questions in simple words).

During our experiment, we asked Google and ChatGPT if India will become the world’s largest economy in the future. Google’s response is based on the most recent news article that it can find online. ChatGPT, on the other hand, provided a more generic response, which some may prefer, but it is devoid of data (for now).

ChatGPT to replace Google?

ChatGPT is a chatbot, and Google is a search engine. However, the underlying purpose of both platforms is the same: to provide users with answers to a variety of questions.

ChatGPT is a chatbot that simulates user conversations using natural language processing technology. Google, on the other hand, is designed to search the internet for information.
