T-Mobile data breach: Company reveals more details

T-Mobile has published further information regarding its most recent data breach, and while the company’s results fall short of the previously stated 100 million records, the figures are startling. While the inquiry is still underway, the business revealed that over 40 million “former or potential customers” who had previously sought credit and 7.8 million postpaid customers had their information taken. T-Mobile stated in its most recent financial report that it has over 104 million users. The stolen files contained vital personal information such as first and last names, dates of…

Waymo builds a hub for autonomous trucks

Waymo revealed plans to construct a center for its self-driving semi-trailer vehicles on a nine-acre property near Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. The Alphabet-owned firm also announced a fleet management partnership with rental truck giant Ryder as it seeks to expand its delivery and logistics operations.   The South Dallas hub will serve as Waymo’s “main operations center” in the state for its fleet of self-driving trucks. The center will be created to handle “hundreds of trucks and employees” as Waymo moves closer to establishing a full-scale freight-hauling operation using its fully…

Tesla announces AI day focused to persuade experts in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence to work with them.

The event is set to begin on August 19th at Tesla’s headquarters in Palo Alto, California. According to an invitation acquired by Electrek, it would include “a lecture by Elon, hardware and software demos from Tesla engineers, Model S Plaid test drives, and more.” The event, like Battery Day, will be live-streamed on Tesla’s website, providing investors, the media, and the company’s many fans with an up-close peek at what’s in the works. Musk and other business executives are scheduled to offer updates on the progress of Tesla’s “Full Self-Driving”…

A team of researchers discovered a vulnerability in IoT devices

Mandiant researchers discovered a security flaw in IoT devices that use the ThroughTek “Kalay” network. FireEye’s parent business has released a blog description of the team’s work in discovering the threat, which outlines how customers may defend themselves. ThroughTek has also issued a security advisory regarding the vulnerability on its website. Working with a team at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), which has also released an alert on its website warning users of the vulnerability, the Mandiant team discovered that users of certain Internet of Things (IoT) devices…

Magnets offer better control of prosthetic limbs

Researchers in MIT’s Media Lab have now discovered a way of controlling prosthetic limbs in a far more accurate way. After introducing microscopic magnetic perforations in the muscle tissue into the severed residual, the length of the muscle may be precisely measured during contraction and this feedback can be related within milliseconds to the bionic prosthesis. One of the biggest problems for amputators using prosthetic limbs is managing the prosthesis such that the same movements as a normal limb. Most prosthetic extremities are controlled by electromyography, an electrical recording method…

Intel to enter PC gaming with it’s me GPU

Intel’s future consumer GPUs will be known as Intel Arc. The new Arc brand will encompass both the hardware and software that enable Intel’s high-end discrete GPUs, as well as several hardware generations. The first of them, originally known as DG2, is scheduled to arrive in Q1 2022 under the codename “Alchemist.” Intel’s Arc-based Alchemist GPUs will be available in both desktops and laptops in early 2022, with Intel intending to compete with both AMD and Nvidia in this space. While we don’t yet know much about the performance of…

Air learning to train deep reinforcement algorithm for aerial boat navigation

Air Learning, an open-source simulator and gym environment where researchers may train RL algorithms for UAV navigation, was recently built by researchers at Harvard University and Google Research. This one-of-a-kind environment, described in a study published in Springer Link’s Special Issue on Reinforcement Learning for Real Life, has the potential to improve the performance of autonomous UAVs in real-world scenarios Reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms have produced extremely promising results in allowing increased autonomy in robots in recent years. However, most contemporary RL approaches are largely concerned with the architecture of…

Researchers discovered flexible battery fueled by human sweat

Researchers at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore)  have created a flexible and stretchy battery that is fueled by human sweat. The prototype battery is made out of printed silver flake electrodes that create energy when wet. The battery, which is 2 cm by 2 cm and is as flat as a little paper bandage, is attached to a flexible and sweat-absorbing cloth that is stretchy and attachable to wearable devices such as watches. The team of scientists tested its gadget with fake human sweat to illustrate its potential application…

AI technique to transform stained tissue into special stains : New research

UCLA researchers created a deep learning-based approach that may be used to reduce the requirement for human histotechnologists to generate unique stains by computationally converting existing pictures of H&E stained tissue into special stains. This AI-based technique was demonstrated by generating a full panel of special stains used for kidney tissue, namely Periodic acid–Schiff (PAS), Jones silver stain, and Masson’s Trichrome; all of these special stains were computationally transformed from existing images of H&E stained tissue biopsies using specialised deep neural networks. The researchers used this panel of unique stains…

Google pixel 5a to launch later this month: Get to know the features

A new Google smartphone series, the Pixel 6, will be unveiled this year, and it’s likely one of the greatest improvements to Google’s Pixel line of smartphones ever. It’s speculated that Google will also release the Google Pixel 5a this month. According to a report by Android Police, Google is expected to launch its Pixel 5a smartphone on August 17. The Google Pixel 5a would have a rubber-like matte texture on the back panel. The 3.5mm audio jack is also anticipated to be retained by the firm. It is also likely…
