Meta has partnered with Sarvam AI to develop Large Language Models (LLMs) in vernacular languages, aiming to overcome limitations posed by predominantly English LLMs. Sandhya Devanathan, Meta’s head in India, emphasized the significance of enabling vernacular languages during ‘The Nudge Forum.’

She highlighted Sarvam’s efforts to overcome restrictions posed by English LLMs, expressing optimism about the exponential impact of this collaboration. Devanathan revealed that Sarvam utilizes Meta’s open-source models for building LLMs and confirmed plans to start with Hindi before expanding to other languages.

The collaboration underscores Meta’s commitment to leveraging AI, particularly Generative AI, in its operations. Devanathan mentioned Meta’s extensive use of AI and the prominence of Generative AI, which has become a ‘buzzword’ in the tech industry.

Additionally, Devanathan noted Meta’s dedication to user safety, stating that content is swiftly removed from the platform before users can view it. She also highlighted Meta’s partnership with the state-promoted open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), aiming to enhance the skills of sellers and facilitate small businesses registered on WhatsApp to sell on ONDC.
