PocketCast is getting a new home

Automattic, the company behind tumbler and wordpress.com is buying pocket casts, the podcast app.

As per the reports coming from automattic, the team will now explore the chances of integration between PocketCasts and wordpress.com to make the distribution and listening experience of podcasts better.

PocketCasts loved by everyone after its launch in 2010. NPR and a group of other public media groups acquired it after 8 years and eventually added a monthly subscription fee for some features like desktop app access and a standalone Apple Watch app, in 2019.

it seems like automattic has bigger plans since Spotify-owned Anchor teamed up with WordPress.com to turn written material into podcasts via text-to-speech tech.it will be interesting to watch how automattic is benefiting from the acquisition of podcasts.
