Vodafone Idea has recorded as the fastest mobile network speed in India in the first quarter of 2021 and won Ookla’s Speedtest Awards. According to Ookla statistics, Vi India had a speed score of 16.10 Mbps, Jio had a score of 13.98 Mbps, and Airtel had a score of 13.86 Mbps. Ookla said that during the assessing, it compared 19,718,623 user-initiated tests taken on the Speedtest iOS and Android mobile apps from all of India’s major mobile carriers to determine who has had the best mobile network speeds. Ookla prioritize download and median speeds because these are what most network providers’ customers will experience on a daily basis.
Over the first quarter, the report noted that it collected data from 34,87,870 distinct devices, including iPhone 11, Redmi Note 5 Pro, Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi Note 7 Pro, and iPhone XR. Overall, the average download speed was 9.6 Mbps. Vi had a median download speed of 11.34 Mbps, Airtel had a median download speed of 10.10 Mbps, and Jio had a median download speed of 8.23 Mbps.
Ookla said that it considers top carriers, which are all carriers with 3% or more of total test samples in the whole market for the entire award period. It then selects the quickest carrier based on the Speed Score, which integrates a measure of each provider’s download and upload speed to rank network speed performance — 90% of the final Speed Score is attributed to download speed and 10% to upload speed.
