Govt has withdrawn its letter to apple seeking compliance with IT rules

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has withdrawn its letter to apple seeking the compliance of iMessage with the new IT rules after apple’s explanation regarding the feature.

Apple described iMessage as a feature in its mobile device like every other phone has for sending text messages. I message is neither a downloadable application nor a social media platform. the letter was withdrawn after the government arrived in an understanding that iMessage would not be considered a ‘social media intermediary’ as it was not “primarily or solely” an instant messaging service provider for enabling interaction between two or more users, the report said.

According to the new It rules,2021, Social media platforms are those enables online interactions between people and allows them to create, upload share, disseminate, modify or access information. All the SM platforms with more than 5 billion users must come in compliance with the new IT rules
