If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro isn’t working properly, Apple has announced that it will repair it for free. According to a news bulletin, a “very small percentage” of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models are experiencing receiver issues due to a component that may fail on the receiver module. Because these issues are limited to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, only these two models are eligible for the free repair programme.
Apple stated that if the receiver on your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro does not emit sound while on a call, you are eligible for free service from an Apple Authorised Service Provider. You simply need to go to the nearest service centre and inform them of the problem. You can also make an appointment before visiting the centre and specify the reason for your visit. Before any service, your device will be examined to ensure its eligibility. This problem has been reported by Apple in iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro units manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021.
Apple also stated that any damage to your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro that “impairs the ability to complete the repair” will be addressed first. For example, your screen could be cracked, necessitating the removal of the receiver in order to repair it. Apple will first repair the screen before addressing the sound issue, and you will be charged for the additional repair if your iPhone is not covered under the warranty. There have been numerous instances in the past where Apple asked customers to pay for additional repairs in order to continue fixing the multiple-input for free, so be cautious about your decision as it could cost you a fortune.
Having the receiver repaired on your affected iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro unit will not extend the warranty coverage, according to Apple. It may also restrict or limit repair to the country from which you purchased your iPhone unit. This may imply that if you purchased your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro in, say, Dubai, you will almost likely need to visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider there only. Apple added that the repair programme will cover affected iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro devices for two years after the first retail sale of the unit.
